Diwali Wishes and the Journey of Sai Vikram Inmadurai
As the festival of Diwali approached, the air in Madurai was filled with joy and celebration. Sai Vikram Inmadurai took a moment to wish everyone around him a very Happy Diwali! May this festival of lights bring prosperity, happiness, and success to all, he thought, as he watched the colorful decorations lighting up the streets.
Once the celebrations settled, Sai returned to his aspirations of building a successful career. Eager to carve out his future, he set his sights on several exciting opportunities. As he researched various pathways, he stumbled upon the coveted Tata Internship 2024. The prospect of working with such a renowned company filled him with enthusiasm, and he knew this could be the stepping stone he needed.
Sai also learned about the Tata Summer Internship 2024, which promised a unique experience during his break from studies. Imagining himself immersed in real-world projects and collaborating with talented professionals, he eagerly prepared his application, determined to make a strong impression.
However, Sai's aspirations didn’t end there. He was equally interested in serving his community and contributing to society. Here are the requirements for a GRC (https://www.gov.uk/apply-gender-recognition-certificate/who-can-apply):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Full disclosure: I don't live in the UK.
But note the part about 'intending to live as this gender for the rest of your life'. Genderfluid ppl can't meet that. Their gender changes, and I saw someone above say non binary ppl are not recognized as a gender in UK so if I were to go there I wouldn't be able to get one either. Neither would agender ppl. Or anyone who's not binary trans if that's the case.
But I would still need care and medical help. And under this thing, the rat bastards would be able to call me a detransitioner even though I'm not.
So artificially propping up the detransition numbers which they might then use to say it's a social contagion or some shit, and if the USA is any indication, or even just Brit TERFs, they're gonna use this to heavily restrict or even eliminate gender affirming care for trans ppl.
(Aren't they already trying to stop ppl from getting HRT until they're 25 or something?! So more pile on).
Gonna look for confirmation but I've seen a claim relating to the news that the NHS is going to force GICs to hand over patient records to look for evidence of detransition, that the criteria they are going to use is if the patient has a GRC.
I dont have a solid source yet. Do not panic yet. But if true I will lose my fucking mind.

Ngl I often wonder about both bob and spin, wtf did they do??? Like what was their job? Surely they did something in order to be found by the rats because there’s no way they raided all of Kranes labs. Plus do they seriously just have kids walking around with the knowledge of how to kill someone’s?
yeah i mean the whole bionic army requires some serious suspension of disbelief. i'm pretty sure Sebastian had a homing beacon he used to call the army to him tho, which is how they found everyone. ig it's possible that some soldiers didn't/couldn't answer to it, like Taylor.
really the most unrealistic part of lr is the idea that the USA gov. would allow a bunch of kids/teens to walk around w incredibly advanced deadly weapons.

Voting Is Powerful
Hey US peeps! Now is a great time to check your voter registration, register to vote, or update your address on your voter registration before the election in November.
Why? Because, whether you have strong feelings about candidates, measures or not, it is a privilege to be able to vote and use your voice in your community. Not everyone has that privilege. That's just it!
The more citizens who vote, the more our elected officials can represent a majority of our citizens. Rarely is there over 65% voter turnout. And the average for most elections is much much lower.
If most citizens don't normally vote, it is very powerful when most of us do vote.
(tips and resources below cut)
See also EAC.GOV for the US election assistance committee.
Check & Register To Vote
Each state has an office of the Secretary of State (go to https://sos.[Insert your state name].gov) which deals with elections and voter registrations. You may also update your voter registration from your state's office, view candidates and measures, and much more depending on how they have set up their system. It is my understanding that each county has an elections office that has a similar website.
Each state also has different laws concerning voting. Make sure your registered name matches your ID as well as your address. Be especially careful if you have more than one last, middle, or first names.
Examples:
Oregon Secretary Of State Elections
https://sos.oregon.gov/elections
Clackamas County Elections
https://clackamas.us/elections
Voting Tips For Newbies:
We all know politicians are not known for honesty but how can we trust they will be more inline with your personal world view than other candidates? This is based on my personal routine. I've voted and lived in multiple different states across the country. Here are a few helpful tips. I've been lucky and have only needed to use numbers 1 & 2, and 3 very seldomly.
1. Read a voter's pamphlet - (see also secretary of state websites) look at endorsements; especially teachers, unions, police, chamber of commerce, other politicians, PACs created by special interest groups; buzz words mentioned, types of past experience. This is a job interview and you are their new boss.
2. No pamphlet? Quickly search the internet. Look at a local paper interview, their personal website, any endorsements, etc.
3. Visit your local elections office's website (state, county, federal) or write them asking for information if you really feel up to a challenge. This is your right to be informed.
4. When all else fails, spend 20 minutes at the library for important elections. Librarians are happy to help with specific questions, as long as they are fact based and researchable.
Other informative websites:
Ballotpedia.org - information about upcoming US elections. A great source, especially for federal elections or state and local elections where there is difficult to find locally provided information.
Example: Ballotpedia 2024 Presidential Election
538 - Do you enjoy looking at numbers and polls? This site has all of the election polls you could want, with a focus on the federal election right now. But, all local polled races can be found here as well.
270towin.com - a graphical and numbers based map of the USA tracking the US national election by electoral vote.
Lastly...
Voting can seem overwhelming. And, it seems more difficult than it should. To me, that shows the importance of voting. If it weren't important, there wouldn't be other people actively trying to stop you from using your voice by voting or becoming involved in your local city council/community center/volunteer programs/peaceful protest. Good luck, and happy thoughts!

So what is the solution then? Because I feel like a military escort going in and forcibly rebuilding things would arguably be an occupation
Although admittedly I’m not certain what the standard procedure is for helping a formerly hostile country rebuild is.
(this is going to be a long long long one because it's a problem people ignore and gloss over all the time. it drives me mad. post war humanitarian management saves lives in the short term and long term but it's been so demonized that people perfer doing nothing to attempting the right thing. long rant incoming. I apologize profusely for how long this fucker is.
skip to the red paragraphs if you want to know how many successful post war countries are rebuilt with a good source to learn more about it.
it's not just your feeling, "military escort going in and forcibly rebuilding things" is 100% an occupation. An occupation that ends (an ethical occupation of sorts) is one where the army wants to leave and wants the place to be better than when they entered it. if the IDF is in Gaza, even for the express and real purpose of rebuilding and maintaining order, they will still be there as occupation forces. ANY army that goes in to rebuild Gaza will be an occupying force. Israel can't do that and end the war at the same time. there are tons of groups and gangs in Gaza besides hamas, including civilians, who will attack them day and night to leave. There is no way anyone in the world would support the IDF occupying gaza even if they do a 100% perfect job of rebuilding it as a paradise. Not even most israeli's.
it gets even more thorny when you look at what happened to the "floating aid pier" that America tried to set up outside of Gaza that lasted all of like one day before it was shelled and destroyed. Same thing with the humanitarian crossings where Gaza militants have shelled and attacked non-stop to prevent civilians and deserters from escaping Gaza and the war. you can see how other muslim/Arab countries like Iraq, now a terrible place to live under the Taliban, faired when America tried to reestablish their gov during the 20 years of fighting. the minute they left: brain drain, huge loss of rights, and a dysfunctional government. One of the huge tragedies about both Iraq and Iran is that they have long and storied cultures and legacies of scholarship, engineering, science, literature and art. both countries have been hobbled by theocratic authoritarians and violent extremists.
there are basically no countries who know how to operate safely in that area, and even fewer who want to. Egypt is the closest to being able but they wouldn't want to touch gaza with a 10 mile long pole. Egypt has pragmatic reasons for this. it is in a balancing act between normalizing relations with the western govs (EU, USA, etc) while not pissing off the rest of the middle east, which will respond by funding terrorism in Egypt like the muslim brotherhood to destabilize their gov and turn the country into another Iraq.
worse still, any aid that goes in without an occupying force overseeing it's use (food, construction material, water pipes, anything you can think of to make Gaza livable to a 21st century standard) will get stolen by one of those gangs I mentioned and either smuggled out and sold in foreign countries or used to build weapons and war infrastructure.
1. it's the best way to get money in gaza/ fund your group's fight for control of the strip since there are very limited/tightly controled opportunities to make a living and
2. countries outside of Gaza (iran, russia, aka the countries that hate the western hegemony) will pay these groups hansomely to attack israel. they need to keep Gaza dependent and poor for this to work and to maintain it as a military position (not just against israel but also as a disruption to the EU and America.)
basically any aid group that doesn't allow post-Hamas militants near total control over their operations would be killed and attacked nonstop.
there's a lot of antisemitism and racism in continuing to fund UNRWA (you don't see nearly the same level of support given to african countries's refugees or non arab refugees from the middle east for example) but it's also a situation where if any aid is given at all it will be under the near total control and disposal of Iranian (or whoever) backed terrorist cells.
it seems increasingly clear that while Gaza civilians still HATE Israel and the population are near total antisemites they also don't want their kids becoming militants. they don't want to be in a war against a military that outmatches them 100 times over either. they don't want them and their families to live in misery for the rest of their lives to prove a point. unfortunately due to their location and history, Gazan civilians don't have much choice in the matter anymore. they have no export or import of goods with the middle east because no one wants the terrorism they bring, and israel (the only country willing to give men and woman work visas so they can earn money outside of hamas controlled avenues) isn't going to let them enter for the foreseeable decades.
Oct 7th wasn't your average terror attack. it was a slaughter. those work visa's were used to case the communist die hard peace activist kibitzes in the south so Hamas basically had a census as well as house layouts when they attacked.
another fuck up is that Gazan's aren't going to be getting refugee status anywhere that has a well set up system to deal with them any time soon. Spain recognized Gaza as a country and walked it back within a day or two because they would be required to take in gazan refugees under international laws and agreements.
So......
No one invested in ending the nearly 100 years of hostilities can go into gaza. No one invested in ending the forever war can get out. Israel (which has enough incentive to rebuild Gaza for pragmatic reasons alone let alone international reputation reasons, you know... so terrorists will stop trying to kill them every day and countries will stop boycotting them) can't be anywhere near them after the war even if they wanted to, which they certainly don't.
at this point i would assume not even Iran wants control or rebuilding in Gaza. their presumed new leader, after ol' Eli Kopter killed the last asshole, says he's more moderate. He has to deal with all the domestic unrest in Iran aka women getting kidnapped, raped, and murdered by the morality police and internal assassination threats. He has a tough job ahead. Either changing the morality police or ramping their activity up secretly, and keeping the people who already have power in Iran happy. Either way he isn't going to be making any friends by throwing cash at Gaza. lots of Iranian civilians support Israel (kinda sorta, it's complicated) and a lot of economic forces are pushing towards strenghening export and import (which is hard if you are under sanctions and if everyone thinks you are just transporting weapons. Aka storing weapons for hezbolla at the Lebanon airport. you know, Lebanon? the country where a Russian container ship filled with AMFO fertilizer was left docked for several years because of gov incompetence? the tanker that blew up most of Beirut in the most destructive explosion ever durring peace time.)
when I say I believe the situation is FUCKED, this is what I'm talking about. there is no exit strategy. there is no avoiding the famine and disease that will decimate Gaza a year from now with no soft end date. and the people it will fuck over the most? Gazans and Israelis. the whole world is at fault in my opinion for letting it get this bad through inaction and malicious intent. Israelis were the only ones trying to deescalate this and now they have absolutely no reason to think it helped in the first place. in fact all their work towards peace just made it worse.
anyway... it's just totally fucked. The news won't report on israel and gaza in three years, but it's only going to get worse.
famine and broken infrastructure kill far more civilians in the aftermath of war. occupying forces are stationed in defeated countries in part to prevent the worst of it. because if you don't you get rearming and piles of dead. positive examples are in japan and germany after WW2, south korea after the Korean war. negative examples are Germany after WW1, Cambodia killing fields, Ukraine's capture by Stalin.
if you want to know how countries in the past were successfully rebuilt start here:
the standard way to rebuild a country (read or watch interveiws with Sara Paine. She's a military historian with a focus on the humanitarian and pragmatic reasons for going to war, conducting wars, and rebuilding countries after a war has been fought. why both sides have a pragmatic reason to "play fair" and help the loser rebuild.) is very hit or miss. it basically starts when the war starts.
during the war you can't be so brutal to the population (combatants or civilians) that they really hate your guts. kind of a "fight fair" approach. you can't be too nice/condescending either or they won't respect that you won. basically they will think they have a shot to rearm and that's not good. you can't put them on "death ground" meaning you can't make losing the war equivalent to their total destruction/ slavery. you have to win totally but not rub their noses in it. no rape. no looting. no targeting women and children. no kidnapping children. no torture. no humiliation for fun or psychological warfare. no human experimentation (looking at you japan and germany.) you can try to create good relationships with the population but you have to back that up by defending the people who will work with you from reprisals.
After the war is over You first help the population establish a national identity and national pride outside of warfare. Pride and national cohesion are usually destroyed by losing a war and seeing your countrymen exploit and turn on each other as resources get thin. you never want to fight a war where you are unusually cruel during or after the war to the loser because that resentment will never go away. Germany was penalized so harshly for WW1 that it fucked their economy and national pride so bad they started WW2. Then you either rebuild institutions from the top down or the bottom up. top down is like post war japan which already had a national identity and institutions, so those just needed support. bottom up is like where you have a firmly established police force keeping the average person safe from gangs and organized crime and work from there to build the rest of the gov.
(this paragraph is mostly my own opinion. read sara paine for a more accurate take with better nuance. Bottom up is more china's thing because they like to enforce Chinese culture as well as exclusive ownership of trade/resources. China does what it does for the benefit of china, whatever and whoever is "china" is usually in flux. America likes top down (which hasn't worked since south korea) because they like keeping the original cultures and institutions intact (it's cheap and looks better to their allies) as well as semi complete trade/resource control. if they aren't in control they usually require veto power or systems in place to control who works with who. Russia does neither. they want land and any economic benefit from it is incidental. they are perfectly happy to kill a population and use the occupied area as a garbage dump. they take over places for national pride and to swing their dicks at the EU and the US. this wasn't the case for the entirety of the USSR but Putin got them right back on the historical norm of tzarist Russian dick swinging.)
The key term to rebuilding a nation is "institution building." you want to keep the institutions that work, working. you want to establish institutions that aren't there already. the order changes depending on the occupation force but the things the occupiers want (if they ever want to leave which is usually the cheaper and sustainable way) are
1. a written constitution/list of citizen's rights upheld by the new gov that is more generous to the population than the prev war time government.
2. a competent and uncorrupt police force that follows the lead of
3. an unbiased judiciary that treats citizens (even minorities) relatively equally and fairly, which follows the laws of
4. a functional law making apparatus that serves the interests of the people without fucking over any fringe group or the occupying force too bad.
5. a leader that the people support but also doesn't want to rearm and restart war efforts. this is a tricky one because they can't be a puppet of the occupiers or such an asshole that they piss off fringe groups and get assassinated when the occupiers leave.
6. favorable economic relationships to the occupying force and its' allies (favorable for the occupied country so they can generate jobs, and reliable income to pay for rebuilding the place themselves.)
A lot of rebuilding a country comes down to the population's mentality. To rebuild a country it's people need to trust that the new government has their best interests at heart. They have to believe in a future. They need to trust the currency. They need to believe that there is a road to improving their economic situation. They need to see themselves as a united people. They need to believe they can maintain their independence and culture. They need to have a desire to rebuild and actively participate if not primarily direct it. there needs to be incentives for the vital professional classes (lawyers, doctors, teachers, engineers, detectives, reporters, politicians) to stay and help shape and maintain the country.
young men need jobs that are definitely going to pay (whether that's in bonds or foreign currency so inflation/deflation of local currency doesn't screw them over.) There needs to be education and support systems for kids, orphans, widows, disabled vets, old folks. the actual market needs to be sufficient so a black market doesn't become the defacto source of goods. free food is good, creating a system where people can work to buy what they need is better. there need to be taxes collected from people who can and should pay so big money doesn't corrupt the system in it's infancy. there need to be workers, managers and bureaucrats. it's a lot of enforcement and it's a balancing act to prevent making too many enemies or the whole thing spirals into civil war and other bullshit. Some governments do this by cracking down HARD on a populace but with enough carrots to make the avoidable and predictable sticks worth putting up with. some governments foster self determination and are mainly enforcers at the direction of the new gov they support (america... which has mixed results producing some of the best and worst post war outcomes.)
but Gaza has no chance. No country wants to rebuild it. A majority of Gazan's don't want it changed and don't have the power to rebuild it into something else if they did. Palestinians have no allies that want them to change. Their national identity and economy IS war. Since the 1960s, thats for 60 years, the Palestinian identity is that of a homeless refugee population that believes the world is promised to the violent fighters who follow islamist rule. they have no non-millitary institutions to rebuild. their schools are for war, their civilian housing is for war, their hospitals are for war, their social security is for war, child birth, at least for hama's leaders, is to birth fighters or birth more wombs to produce fighters. a huge percent of, if not all, professional educated gazan workers in gaza are a part of/working with the gazan military aka hamas.
if Gaza ever did "win" and take over Israel, they would immediately go to war with themselves... or Lebanon or Egypt or Jorden because the stated goal of Hamas is effectively islamist world domination. They currently have nothing else to produce as a country. If left to it's own devices, which it will be unless some government has the moral clarity and brass balls to do it, the civilians in gaza are trapped in that national identity. The groups with the education, knowledge, guns, supplies, outside funding, and power are keeping it that way.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy used his taxpayer-funded expense account for nearly $12,000 worth of food and drinks at MetLife Stadium — including at a Taylor Swift concert and a hip-hop music festival, according to public records obtained by POLITICO.
Now, after being questioned about the justifications for the costs during his first term, the governor’s office says it is asking the state Democratic Party to reimburse taxpayers for the entertainment.
Murphy’s use of his expense account has not attracted attention since he took office in 2018. But his Republican predecessor, Chris Christie, found himself under scrutiny by the news media for similar spending and had the Republican State Committee reimburse the state more than $82,000 in concession costs at MetLife Stadium.
Murphy’s office said the Democratic State Committee was initially expected to cover the stadium costs but didn’t. The state was left with the bill, which was paid via Murphy’s $95,000-a-year expense account — a longstanding line item in the state budget which has been consistently renewed under Murphy and his predecessors.
Budget language says the governor’s expense account is for “Official Receptions, Official Residence, and Other Official Expenses.” The expense account is barred from being used for “personal purposes” and it cannot supplement the governor’s annual $175,000 salary.
Jennifer Sciortino, a spokesperson for Murphy, said the governor’s office “had every expectation” that the state party would cover the stadium expenses at the time because it “traditionally covers these costs.”
“Once it was clear that there were outstanding bills that had not been paid, the state stepped up to meet this responsibility,” Sciortino said in a statement to POLITICO.
“We are pursuing reimbursement from the state party for costs incurred at MetLife Stadium,” she added in a follow-up statement.
Phil Swibinski, a spokesperson for the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, said in a statement that the organization “had no knowledge” of the invoices since they came before the current party leadership.
“We are looking into the matter in order to determine whether any additional action is necessary at this time,” he said.
Records from the governor’s expense account do not show taxpayers picking up MetLife Stadium expenses after 2019.
How Murphy spent over the years
The records, obtained through the Open Public Records Act, offer a partial glimpse into how taxpayer dollars help fund a more private part of the governor’s job away from bill signings and press conferences. Murphy has used the expense account for “official state gifts” and catering for receptions he’s hosted, typically at Drumthwacket, the governor’s mansion in Princeton.
State gifts included cufflinks and $100 custom plates, according to the records.
When Christie was eyeing a run for the White House, multiple news outlets reported on his use of the expense account in 2010 and 2011, notably the $82,594 spent on concessions at MetLife, which the state Republican Party reimbursed. That was part of $300,000 in spending on food and alcohol over five years, according to a now-defunct outlet, New Jersey Watchdog.
Christie used the governor’s suite at MetLife Stadium regularly, including to host elected officials whom his aides were planning to pressure for a future endorsement, according to testimony at the Bridgegate trial. Murphy also has access to a private suite at the stadium and regularly attends events there, including a Jets vs. Bills game with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul.
Murphy similarly used his expense account at MetLife stadium, although his spending there was far smaller. The $11,847 for snacks and beverages at the East Rutherford stadium included:
$936 for snacks during a July 2018 Taylor Swift concert
$2,095 at a Sept. 2018 USA vs. Brazil soccer game
$2,068 at a Nov. 2018 Jets vs. Patriots game
$1,413 at the Hot 97’s Summer Jam in June 2019
$2,856 for the Sept. 2019 USA vs. Mexico soccer game
$2,479 for the Oct. 2019 Jets vs. Cowboys game.
State records do not show who was in attendance for the MetLife Stadium events or what gubernatorial business Murphy was on during Swift’s 2018 “Reputation” tour or the Hot 97 Jam, which featured Cardi B and Meek Mill. Some invoices show specific line items for the snacks at MetLife — the Jets vs. Cowboys game included $90 for Aquafina and $45 for extra guacamole, for example.
Many of the expenses from the governor’s account were for receptions at the governor’s mansion. From the start of his term to around July 2023, around $280,000 was spent between grocery store purchases, restaurant catering or catering staff for receptions. Events covered by the expense account included receptions for Hanukkah, Diwali and a meeting with the French ambassador (POLITICO has attended catered press receptions hosted by the governor’s office). Other events expensed were labeled as meetings with Cabinet members and senior staff or legislative meetings, according to invoices.

Records also show that in August 2021, just over $3,000 in catering staff was sent to Murphy’s personal residence in Monmouth County, a sprawling, multi-million dollar estate on the Navesink River. Invoices do not show who Murphy was meeting with at his home or what official gubernatorial business was happening at the time, although there was also a $1,620 valet parking invoice for an event that same day (invoices showed four instances of catering staff sent to Murphy’s personal residence in 2018, although Sciortino said they were actually sent to Drumthwacket).
“Governor Murphy, like others before him, has chosen to forego living in the official Governor’s Mansion,” Sciortino said in a statement. “On occasion, he hosts official state business at his residence, such as dinners with legislative leadership, which are catered by the Drumthwacket chef, occasionally with help from outside catering companies if the event is larger in nature.”
Not all purchases were for food and catering. In May 2018, the governor’s office spent $253 at the New Jersey State Museum Shop, with $108 for two pairs of “NJ State Seal Gold Cuff Link[s]” and $145 on five “Heirloom Pen Battle Sites” pens, according to an invoice. Records from the gift shop suggest taxpayers got a good deal — a 10 percent discount for state employees was applied to the cufflinks.
In 2018, invoices also included $3,118 for 30 custom plates from a stained glass art studio as well as $2,300 for 184 custom New Jersey-themed coasters, which Sciortino said was part of a publicly advertised “official state gift” contest for New Jersey artists. Another purchase included $900 for 50 copies of a New Jersey art book on Jersey Shore paintings.
The cufflinks, pens, plates, coasters and art books were “official gifts” for customary purposes, according to Sciortino.
“Governors and foreign dignitaries — such as heads of state, ambassadors and consul generals — traditionally gift one another with official state gifts,” Sciortino said in a statement. “The items mentioned were purchased at the very onset of the administration. The completed items, along with the book ‘Jersey Shore Impressionists,’ were eventually purchased as official gifts for meetings with dignitaries.”
Other expense funds were used for renovations at Drumthwacket. That includes $64,750 in late 2020 to replace windows at Drumthwacket to “ensure proper airflow,” according to records. In late 2021 the governor’s office spent just over $50,000 for Drumthwacket renovations including improvements to a bathroom, side and front porch and back corridor.
Murphy did not entirely deplete his expense account every year. Records show over $25,000 went unused and was returned to the state between 2019 to 2022 from the expense account.
Legislation introduced in prior sessions would have required annual disclosures with the State Ethics Commission on how the funds were spent. The bill, however, never advanced and has not been reintroduced.

Report: 10,000 California Fast Food Jobs Cut Due to $20 Minimum Wage
Approximately 10,000 jobs have reportedly been slashed at California fast food eateries after the minimum wage was hiked to $20.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) law to pay workers $20 an hour went into effect on April 1 and has apparently taken a devastating toll on the industry, Fox Business reported Wednesday.
The outlet continued:
The California Business and Industrial Alliance (CABIA) said nearly 10,000 jobs have been cut across fast food restaurants since Newsom signed California Assembly Bill 1228 into law last year. To highlight what it says are the unintended consequences of the law, CABIA has taken out an ad in Thursday’s statewide edition of USA Today with mock “obituaries” of popular fast food brands. … CABIA’s ad highlights multiple restaurants that have had to raise prices and lay off workers to stay afloat and, in some cases, shut down stores. The ad features news clips documenting changes made by brands like El Pollo Loco, Subway and Burger King across the state. “California businesses have been under total attack and total assault for years,” CABIA president and founder Tom Manzo told FOX Business. “It’s just another law that puts businesses in further jeopardy.”
In order to offset the increased wages, several restaurant chains such as McDonald’s, Burger King, and In-N-Out Burger raised their prices, the New York Post reported on Thursday.
A California McDonald’s franchisee criticized Newsom’s minimum wage law in March, according to Breitbart News, saying the menu would be “unaffordable” if items on it were scaled to the updated wages.

Also Taylor is fucking funny :
- when Biden dropped out, 27 minutes later he announced his endorsement of Kamala
- Taylor posted her endorsement 27 minutes after the debate finished
- she DID take a swipe at Vance by singing it ‘childless cat lady’
— no, that’s not as tough as “we will vote you out in November!” But the statement she released about Vienna made me think she wouldn’t straight up endorse a candidate because of political threats and the far right literally have that conspiracy that Taylor and Travis are a gov psy op to get people to vote blue, and that they have been chosen to birth the next anti christ…. Like, there has to be some nut jobs making politically based threats when this shit is being shared across all social media platforms and not just 4chan or whatever.
- Kamala announced friendship bracelets to her store after the endorsement and walked off stage to The Man. This to me SCREAMS a coordinated effort tbh, and maybe that makes me delusional, but so many celeb endorsements are more virtue signalling or ‘fuck the other guy’ or ljke pink washing it “I’M VOTING A ✨WOMAN✨ FOR POTUS #GirlPower! 💅🏻💪🏻💋”. They got maximum exposure from the endorsement by doing it now AND having “swiftie x Kamala” merch after the endorsement was posted. It was a perfect move imo
- I know Kamala has been leaning into pop culture with the brat stuff as well, but I feel like making friendship bracelets as merch without knowing 100% for sure they’d have Taylor’s endorsement would’ve been a v risky move and their campaign doesn’t seem that stupid, because FANS would talk about it online and spin their own narrative (just look at Charli and the RAVE CANDY bracelet photoshoot backlash)
- if she said ‘I’m voting for Kamala because… and I’m not voting for bigotry, racism, homophobia” she’d just make the right more mad or anyone on the fence mad because they’d be like ‘hey I think trump will make me rich, that doesn’t mean I’m a racist! I’ll definitely vote trump now!’ Because people are stupid and when they feel attacked that’s what they do *some people.
They’re my thoughts anyway lol. I wonder if she’ll have voter registration booths at the next USA eras shows?
I agree with you 100% and that point about undecided voters not needing to be told voting Trump makes them racist is SO important. Yes obviously bigots vote Trump. But Trump can’t win just on the bigots. He can win because a lot of people believe he’s better for the economy. They also feel like a lot of his policies are “common sense” and that’s borne out of ignorance rather than hate. Most of the transphobic arguments I’ve seen from that side are literally rooted in ignorance, not in like “trans people are [slur]”. They appeal to a lot of TERF arguments tbh. The thing is there’s an F in TERF. It’s fucked up and wrong but the people who believe that aren’t anti women and saying they are won’t like… change their minds.

as a civil service employee it always annoys me when businesses offer discounts to military & vets for their service & then act like other federal employees dont exist. the US government is the largest employer in the USA and it is notorious for lagging behind in pay compared to private sector jobs. most civil service workers live paycheck-to-paycheck; only very recently did the US gov enact a minimum $15 an hour for all civil service employees, because one of the primary reasons people leave civil service is it doesn’t pay enough. if you want to thank people for their service by offering a discount, at least extend the discount to everyone who’s served, civil, military, or otherwise.

Hello! We're back to Sandra talking too much about DRES3.
I promised myself to make these shorter unless something truly horrific happens in the subtitles lol (which is, thankfully, not usually the first episode, so this is relatively short and sweet)
Here's the reference post for the first episode.
I have a drinking game for you. Take a shot each time someone mentions Torremolinos. (Disclaimer you might die of alcohol poisoning). Think of Torremolinos as the equivalent of Palm Springs. Where all of the gays go on holiday and where all the drag queens go to die retire.
Pinkchadora makes a joke of Supremme's pictures in the work room bc her name is also the name of a McDonald's burger here (yes, the entire name, Supreme Deluxe, hence the bbq sauce comment). People Pinkchadora mentioned as inspiration/references for her drag: Lola Flores (flamenco singer); Sonia and Selena (one hit wonder duo of the early 00s)
Pakita's intro line in the work room is a pun 'i whisked my milk so much' (de tanto batir la leche) ((yes yes masturbation joke)) 'i ended up whipped' (he terminado montada) we call the act of getting/being in drag as montarse/estar montada in Spain
Pakita said she's what happens when you put a Furby and Falete in a cocktail shaker. Falete is a nb flamenco singer.
Bestiah says she comes from the cultural capital of the province... Leganés. Which is a joke but we love Madrid working class neighborhood pride in this blog (sidenote there's a lesbian and a nonbinary flag in their entrance look and they're my comfort punky this season)
Pitita's name comes from Pitita Ridruejo, a socialité (that reported seeing various Marian apparitions when she was alive for which it's safe to say she was not only filthy rich she was also more than a little insane)
María Edilia came dressed like the logo of Harina Pan (the Venezuelan precooked maize corn flour used to make arepas) and in the colors of the Venezuelan flag
When Chuchi entered they talk about how they won the Canarian drag gala of 2019. There's nothing to compare Canarian drag to and it's like saying you won the most ferocious drag competition @supremmedeluxe did a post about Canarian drag if you wish to know more but like. Suffice to say it really is a league of their own
Chanel's intro line in the work room is a pun with badmouthing ("turning someone green") ((she's the one in green skin ofc))
In the mini challenge Pitita says her rat is named Obregón and it's a ref to Ana Obregón, an actress that is better known for the 'sexy sexy sexy' bit Pitita mentions (it's from the romcom Ana and the 7, in which she's a stripper that gets a job as the nanny of the seven children of a widow man, a raunchier version of The Nanny lol)
A bonus fact about how insanely talented Clover is (bc I'm in love and they talk about people thinking cis girls can't do drag): Last year there was an official viewing party hosted by Pupi in which there were also local drag performers and there were mini contests w the audience (think butch queen realness, dance offs, lipsyncs, all that, it was amazing). Clover won that thing when she was like 3 months into drag, she's really that bitch
I don't think there's much to explain for the talent shows but just in case...
Vania Vainilla mentions an app called To Good to Go that I don't know if it exists outside of Europe so we'll just mention it, it's for restaurants to sell a bit more cheaply the food that is still perfectly good but might get thrown away
Spain is Different. Alright. Welcome to my history class. So you might be familiar with how Spain was in a dictatorship for about 40 years. After WW2 Franco realized he needed to get friendlier with the US government if he wanted to keep in power bc money ((Spain was neutral in WW2 so it didn't qualify for the Marshall Plan in the beginning but it got in basically bc Franco was a massive prick that hated anything remotely Communist leaning and the USA gov... Is what it is))
Pitita's was my favorite talent show but I do realize it was the hardest to understand without references. The women in the wheel she was spinning are pop culture icons here, and she was imitating stuff that represents them. The first one was Manuela Trasobares (a mezzo-soprano trans activist) who got famous for getting very angry when discussing LGBT rights on tv on an interview and breaking a glass. Then Carmen Lomana who is a filthy rich woman that made an ad for BK that went viral bc seeing such an elegant woman in that ad was kind of camp. Then there's Terelu, there was a reality tv about how was her life and her mother's (a well known newswoman) called Las Campos (they tried to make it something akin to The Kardashians) and she famously told her mother to go fuck herself bc she asked her if she wanted a churro which became a meme so her eating churros became viral. Ana María Aldon however is a little less clear to me (the time she got COVID maybe? The fact that her disgusting ex who is the one that was actually in the wheel is one of those super macho man and famously said in an interview his sperm was still strong and wanted another kid w her??? Eh still insanely funny)
Part of said efforts was making a very strong tourist campaign under the slogan "Spain is Different" which was used to promote... Literally every single stereotype you know about the country. Toros. Flamenco. All that. So that's how you get Bestiah dressed like jamón serrano, Macarena as a comment against bullfighting (which *chef's kiss*), Hornella in a Goya/locomia inspired fan look, Maria Edilia as a flamenco souvenir doll, Vania and Kelly as homages to Sara Montiel (la Violetera and Sandra Montiel the official Sara Montiel impersonator and an icon of Torremolinos), Chuchi as a disco ball representing the party scene (very Paco Rabane too), Chanel as the dumb tourist shirts, Clover as the 12 grapes tradition on NYE, Visa as La Sagrera and then the Parc Güell in BCN
But we also now use it as a very sarcastic way to talk about things that suck but of fucking course happen in Spain. Like Pitita making a commentary on corrupt politicians (listen people trying to get away w illegal money in trash bags is a surprisingly common occurrence I'm not even going to mention a case there's a dozen), Pinkchadora talking about the Spanish cinema dedicated specifically to juvenile delinquency and in a very heartwarming example, Pakita and her homage to Ocaña (LGBT icon from the 80s that we love and adore thank you very much)
((((SPOILER ON WHO LEAVES NEXT))))
María Edilia's exit line was for me and me alone (and every other Venezuelan bc no one else would have understood it lmao). The national beauty pageant is a huge deal in my country and she sang the hymn song of the contest. It's extremely catchy and I'm now humming it lol.
I think that's all for this episode 😊 if you made it this far, thanks 💖 lmk what you thought about the episode

So yet again another teenager (poc) has been killed by a cop in France.
People have reacted violently to this obviously.
I watched the news for like 10 min before I had to turn it off cause suddenly our politiciens in power dialed the racism to eleven?? Leader of the right-wing party proclaimed in front of the fcking senate that the violent protestors were violent because it's in their nature as second/third generations immigrants???? And to make things worse one of our actual minister suddenly stated "Ive been to jails and a lot of jailed person are named Kevin and Matteo so our police can't be racist, checkmate haters"??????????
Like I know racism still exists in France im not being like "its a USA thing" but since when are our government members sO COMFORTABLE with making racist remarks in PUBLIC statements??? And its not even veiled racism its the dumbest, most basic form of racism?? RACISM IS ILLEGAL IN THIS COUNTRY HELLOOO??? DO YOU NOT KNOW THE LAW MISTER MINISTER SIR OR??
Also the gov arguments being like "ppl shouldnt protest violently its bad and illegal :("
So is murder, fcker??
"How dare you investigate that cop and jail him?? He just did his job"
I don't know how to explain to you that killing is illegal. That hit and run doesnt make you deserve murder. That we don't have the death penalty in France. That even if we had it, cops wouldnt be the one who gets to decide who die. Separation of powers motherfucker. Can't be judge jury and executioner.
Also cops should be judged MORE harshly than the rest of population, NOT LESS, because they are SWORN IN. Meaning if a cop says you're guilty while you say otherwise, the State will trust the cop over you. All the time. This kind of power comes with responsabilities.
